Norway’s seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index improved to -16.6 in the third quarter of 2026, up from a downwardly revised -18.1 in the second quarter. The uptick reflected a less pessimistic view of the country’s economic outlook: expectations for the national economy over the next year rose to -24.6 from -34.9 in Q2, while assessments of its performance over the past year improved to -37.1 from -47.1.

Households were also more upbeat about their personal finances. Expectations for their financial situation over the next year edged into positive territory, at 0.8 compared with -3.5 previously, and views of their finances over the past year strengthened to -2.6 from -9.4.

Sentiment toward major purchases improved as well, with that sub-index rising to -8.7 from -15.8. If their financial situation were to improve, households indicated a stronger preference for repaying loans or saving and investing, with both responses climbing to record highs in the survey’s history, which dates back to 1992.

On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the consumer confidence index rose to -14.4 from -22.1.
